The board of the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City (SDCNYC) voted unanimously last week to support only a trans inclusive ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) and to ask area congressional represenatives not to support the current gay only version being offered.

SDNYC has learned the lesson of SONDA, where a non-inclusive bill became law, with the promise that gender identity and expression would be added later. After more than five years and even with a Democratic governor, transgender people, the most voiceless part of the LGBT community, are still waiting.

SDNYC will only support a vote on the an inclusive version of ENDA, because we believe a trans inclusive bill will eventually pass if the entire LGBT community sticks together. A watered down version of the bill, with obsolete language, may never be amended to include the trans segment of our community which would benefit most from having employment protection.

Washington Dispatch: The former Massachusetts governor spent much of his political career courting gay conservatives, only to do an about-face on gay rights (and a host of other issues) in advance of his presidential run. For the Log Cabin Republicans, it's payback time.
