State Panel Selects Three For Comptroller Vacancy PDF Print E-mail

A panel of previous comptrollers chosen to recommend possible candidates to fill the vacany of state comptroller has recommended three interviewees to the state legislature, handing Speaker Silver a potential showdown over the filling of the vacancy.  The panel recommended Nassau County Comptroller Howard S. Weitzman, commissioner of the New York City Department of Finance Martha E. Stark, and William J. Mulrow, an investment banker who ran for comptroller in 2002 and who is close to Gov. Spitzer.  The Legislature will now act to fill the vacancy, expected in the coming week.

Burno Investigation Includes Florida Strip Club Visit PDF Print E-mail

Majority Leader Joseph Bruno appears to be following the footsteps of his Republican colleagues in the US Congress.  Bruno's business dealings are being investigated by the FBI, which also includes a visit to a Florida strip club possibly funded by a Bruno friend also under investigation in the Bruno FBI investigation.
