Saddam Hussein Executed PDF Print E-mail

The war in Iraq is a mess and now Saddam Hussein has been executed for murdering 148 Shiite men, women and children where someone tried to assassinate him about 25 years ago.  But the rise of Saddam Hussein to power was aided by the United States, in fact, some of the very people who had rallied against him now.

A blogger at Street Prophets says:

I want to see this picture every time someone mentions Saddam's execution.

I want to see this picture every time someone mentions the war in Iraq.

I want to see this picture every time someone claims that the war in Iraq is helping protect us from terrorists.

I want to see this picture every time someone mentions impeachment.

I want to see this picture every time another American soldier dies for this illegal, immoral, unnecessary war.

I want to see this picture every time an IED explodes in Iraq.

I want to see this picture every time there is another terrorist attack in the coming months, now that every terrorist organization in the Middle East has a new martyr to recruit with.

I want to see this picture every time someone complains that we don't have enough money to fund public education, healthcare, rebuilding New Orleans, or any other underfunded initiative of fundamental importance to the American people.

I want the whole world to be reminded that Saddam's evil excesses were made possible with the aid of BushCo officials.

I want to see this picture everywhere.

The war in Iraq is a mess and is expected to continue to be so.  Saddam Hussein has been executed because his rise of power led him to kill many innocent lives of his countrymen.  Meanwhile, Rumsfeld is out of the job as Defense Secretary but George W. Bush and Dick Cheney rest easily in their White House offices.

The Passing Of President Ford: What The World Needs Now: Leadership PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeffrey
Wednesday, 27 December 2006

I have to admit that I'm not as familiar with President Gerald Ford as other presidents having been only 10 years old in 1974, but I've been inspired as I read about his life and administration after the impeachment of Nixon and during the Vietnam War.   As I am a strong Democrat, I can still appreciate the leadership that this Republican showed having gained the White House not by election but by circumstances that had been tearing the country apart: the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam War.  I was impressed by the quote that I saw from Ford after Nixon's departure and his swearing in:

"My fellow Americans," he said, "our long national nightmare is over. Our Constitution works. Our great republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here the people rule."

I think these words point to a man that aquired the office of the presidency and understood the leadership that the country was in need of at the time, recognizing that our country in turmoil needed just that, leadership.

I think the same is very true today, that what this country and this world needs is, simply, leadership.  Leadership is a hard quality to define, but something, I think, people clearly recognize when it is displayed.   I think the passing of President Ford gives us a moment to reflect on our need for leadership - for our country and for our world.
